The music video challenges a few conventions of music video's. In most music videos an actor or the singer is lip syncing most of the lyrics. In the music video there's only one scene of lip syncing. The music video was about friendship. Most music videos are about relationships. There wasn’t any throw away scenes just to take up a lot of time. There wasn’t a lot of cutting between scenes. The music video used a lot of convections also. A lot of stereotypes were used purposefully, which does represent social groups and issues. Bullying was addressed in the music video. The mean girl wasn't a white girl in the music, it was an Africa American girl.
The music video engages with audiences because it’s relatable. A lot of teens deal with bullying. People also tend to choose to surround themselves with the wrong people. For most people it takes being wronged by the person again and again to let them go. A lot of people atleast have one friend that doesn’t like another friend. ea. All teens go through some type of friend drama. It can be distributed on several social media platforms. Like Youtube, Twitter and Tiktok.
My production skills developed a lot through the project. There was a time crunch on filming the music video it self. I had to quickly figure out what angles would tell the story the best. My story telling skills definitely increased as there had to be more scenes that were made. No scene was used as a filler scene in the music video, they all had meaning. I learned how to edit a lot better. The editing and filming itself looks so much smoother in the music video. A lot of creative action was taken for the music video, and i think alot of the choices of scenes shows that.
